About Mercy LIGHT

Mercy LIGHT was developed to be on the cutting edge of obesity treatment. Using the five components below, we evaluate each patient for the specific reasons that make it difficult to lose weight or keep weight off, including metabolism, environment and motivation.

Based on your individual medical and psychological characteristics, we create a personalized strategy to help you lose weight and get healthy!

Medical Supervision

Mercy LIGHT approaches obesity as a complex disease that should be treated by a physician. We review your:

  • complete medical and weight history
  • current medications
  • lab work
  • routine medical information such as weight, body measurements and blood pressure
  • metabolic issues
  • contributing medical conditions
  • surgical options

Psychological Evaluation

Obesity is often related to personality traits and learned behaviors, which is why therapists and licensed psychologists are part of our team. They:

  • get to know your personality and motivations
  • help your physician develop your weight loss strategy
  • evaluate candidates for surgery

Nutritional Counseling

Obesity is usually linked to poor nutritional choices. As a patient, you’ll meet with a registered dietitian who:

  • evaluates your food choices
  • identifies healthy ways you can change your environment and lifestyle

Personal Training

In addition to eating right, a healthy lifestyle includes exercise. You will work with a certified personal trainer to:

  • expend energy as a way to regulate appetite, lower cholesterol, shape and tone the body, and reduce your body’s tendency to store fat
  • develop a program that fits your lifestyle and weight loss goals

Surgical Intervention

Bariatric surgery — including laparoscopic banding and laparoscopic gastric bypass — with our qualified surgeon may be an option for those who meet specific obesity criteria. This option is considered only for people who:

  • have been through extensive screening procedures
  • have a body mass index (BMI) above 40
  • are more than 100 pounds overweight
